Schedule

Welcome to The Root Institute! We will release new speakers on an ongoing basis. Please RSVP to stay up to date on new speaker announcements and receive an email reminder when new conversations are published.

Week 1: Politics

Election 2020. Voting rights. Voter Suppression. The Census. COVID-19. So many things are happening right now, impacting our very lives while a presidential election in November looms, and we're here to make sense of it all while looking towards the future of politics in Black America. Speaking directly with some of our brightest political minds, including former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, we seek to make sense of this election cycle and talk the political to the personal.

Week 2: Entertainment & Culture

When is art activism? Speaking with some of the foremost leaders and minds out of Hollywood, we will discuss how art can be used to educate, uplift, spread joy, entertain and engage around the issues that impact our communities. Featuring discussions with innovators, like director Lee Daniels, we break down what a powerful tool storytelling can be and how, when executed well, art can change the world.

Week 3: Health & Wealth

Is your mind on your money? Or are you hoping to free (and feed) your body, mind and spirit from it? In these discussions, we break down how health and wealth impacts our communities—from food deserts to access to prenatal care—as we look for ways to strengthen our minds, improve our personal health and fitness, while also learning how we can manage our finances and encourage enterprising businesses and entrepreneurial spirits in Black America.

Week 4: Social Impact

The fight for equality is a long one that has existed since the founding of America. But this country hasn't seen protests like the ones that unfolded after the death of George Floyd since the 1960s. What is different this time, what is the same, and what lessons can we learn towards the future? We're talking to community organizers, activists and leaders in the social justice space about what happens after cameras fade away and how we can keep our focus to create lasting change.
